One of the least understood things in men’s fashion today is how your clothing should fit. Often as men we think “the more comfortable the better”. This is not always the case. we need to consider the impression we are seeking to make. We all know that how we present ourselves and impressions go hand in hand. This means that a well fitting outfit will set you apart before you ever start the conversation. Dressing in clothing that fits well is an outward expression that you know how to pay attention to detail. Details matter. Weather you’re showing up for a job interview, a presentation, or trying to get the girl, details can be the difference between success and failure.
Back to the “the more comfortable the better”. We have a tendency to believe that in modern day fashion we don’t need to adhere to the archaic rules of sacrificing comfort for fashion. If our goal is to play around in the outdoors “the more comfortable the better” most assuredly applies. As well as functionality. wear the right suit for the right occasion. Just as the functionality of comfort applies to the outdoors, so does it apply to the suit. In the case of the suit we’re facing a different challenge. In place of the mountain we now have people and the opinions that they create on the spot. Details matter.
A suit should fit snug without being tight or pulling too much. What we’re looking for is called “The Silhouette”. The shape of the suit as it outlines the body. Most suit wearers will buy a suit that is 1-2 sized too large for them, causing the fabric to drape like a sack over the body. Adding to the negative effect of this is the fact that the wool used is a static (not stretchy) material, so it will not form to the body the way other clothing might. In contrast, if you buy a suit that may be the right size for your shoulders, the chances are low that everything else will fit as it should without human tailoring. Any time your body falls outside of the parameters set by factory made suits you will find that it will either pinch uncomfortably or drape over the body with too much fabric.
This is where custom suits can help you. Simply put, a well fitting suit is better looking. Good tailoring can emphasize a man’s most attractive features and draw the eye away from everything else.
